Am I Eligible to Vote?

What Do I Need for Registration?

In order to register to vote in the out-of-country election for Iraq’s Transitional National Assembly, applicants must attend an OCV registration centre and present at least two acceptable documents which confirm all of the following:

  1. Identity      Identity can be proven by a document issued by a state, state agency or international institution, which contains a recognizable photograph of you. This may include, for example: Iraqi or foreign passport or ID Card, Driver’s Licence, government-issued refugee identification (refugee ID Card or official travel document).
  2. Voting Age. You must be born on or before 31 December 1986; and
  3. Iraqi nationality. In order to prove Iraqi nationality, you must present a document or documents issued by state, state agency, international institution or organisations such as the International Red Cross, which fulfil one of the following:

3.1 Birth in Iraq
                                   You must present a document which lists place of birth as in Iraq.
                                                                                 Or
3.2 Current or previous citizenship of Iraq
                                   You must present a document which lists citizenship or nationality.
                                                                                 Or
3.3 Birth to father of Iraqi nationality
                                   You must present a document or documents which show parental link plus your father’s nationality as Iraqi.
                                   Your father’s Registration Receipt may be accepted as proof of your father’s nationality.

           The following documents issued by the Iraqi government can also prove nationality.

           one of the following in combination with any other official Iraqi issued document. This includes any document issued by Iraqi state or
           state agencies, including educational, health and cultural state bodies.

           In these cases, a total of three documents of this type will need to be presented.

 

When do I Register & Vote?

To vote you must first register.

Registration will take place between 17 and 23 January 2005 from 08:00-17:00 (5 pm).

Every successful registrant will receive a registration receipt. Keep your registration receipt safely! You will have to return on polling day with your registration receipt and photo ID to the same location where you registered, to cast your ballot.

Voting will take place between 28 and 30 January 2005 from 07:00-17:00 (5 pm).

Of course you can!  The OCV Program is looking for qualified individuals in the 14 countries where operations have been established.
