DARE TO DREAM
Visualize a city with streets bearing
the
Assyrian names of the ancient gods
of Sumer.
Imagine the multi-level shopping
centers,
government building, schools and
universities,
cathedrals, hospitals, factories
and companies
employing hundreds of thousands
of Assyrian men
and women. Listen to all
the beautiful Assyrian
dialects spoken at every street
corner, in
every taxi cab, and all the movie
theaters.
The bookstores sell Assyrian translations
of
Shakespear's Tragedies, The Wall
Street Journal's
The Middle Eastern Common Market's
Daily Report,
and Marx's Communist Manifesto.
Now imagine
yourself comfortably sitting at
the bank of the
Tigris River, reading another page
of William
Daniel's Qatineh Gabarra.
You are now thinking
of a few years back when the silent
revolution
began in the bedrooms and the home
offices of
the Assyrians thousands of miles
away: in Chicago,
Toronto, San Jose, Frankfurt, Tehran
and Zakho...
and all along the only thing that
could separate you
then from now was the courage to
dream.

"Well, it's about time...I was
beginning to
think that Zenda was jus ta figment
of my
imagination. Like it was
too good to be
true or something. Thank
God it is back. I
was beginning not to even log on
to AOL
anymore to see my messages...you
know what?
I was reading an article from Zenda
and it
finally resolved an old argument
that I had
with a Persian friend of mine.
You see, he
was claiming that Andre Aghassi
was Persian
and I kept saying "you're crazy."
So finally
in Zenda I have proof. Thanks."
